Issues:
"Ignore
Network Link errors" no longer works in Google Earth.
If a network link error occurs you can no longer just click the ignore
button. You must now uncheck and re-check the GoopsServers placemark
in the Google Earth Places folder. This is a known Google Earth
bug. This bug has been fixed in Google Earth 4.2 released 8/20/07 - you can now just click the "Ignore" button.
The Google Earth view moves, but the GooPs cursors and tracks are not visible.
This can happen if you close GooPs and restart it without closing Google Earth. Google Earth can't communicate with GooPs so it quits trying. To get the communication going again you have to right click on the GooPsServers placemark and select "Refresh".
Google Earth
causes my system to run out of resources.
This is a Google Earth bug with network links that can eventually cause
network problems on your system. Exiting and restarting GE frees the
resources.
GooPs can't connect to my GPS.
The GooPs status box just shows the message "Opening COMx". This can happen if another program has the GPS COM port open. Be sure that no other programs running on your computer have the GPS COM port open. This includes the native Google Earth GPS functionality. If you need to run multiple GPS programs from a single GPS you can use a COM port splitter like xport or GPSgate Express There are some systems where GooPs can't read from the COM port, even though other GPS programs can. A workaround is to use a COM port splitter program like xport or GPSgate Express to open the COM port, read the GPS data, and forward it to GooPs.
Street
names flash when auto-tracking is on.
This is a Google Earth issue. One workaround is to reduce the GooPsServers refresh interval.
It is more apparent with larger tilt angles.
I can’t connect to my friends on the
network.
Right now GooPs remote
tracking only works if your friend’s system is
“visible” on your network (e.g. Mobile VPN). Work
is currently in progress to make GooPsremote
more practical for the typical mobile user. If you want to share your
position with others from a server try the GooPs ftp client under
Optons->Save File Periodically.
When I press
“Start Demo” Google Earth comes up and just sits
there out in space or takes forever to zoom in to the GooPs cursor.
Make sure the Google Earth
Tools->Options->Control->Fly To/Tour Speed setting
is set toward “Fast”.
I’m
seeing two of my vehicle.
Make sure there is only one GooPsServers
network link in the Google Earth “Places” or
“Temporary Places” folder. Delete any duplicate GooPsServers network links.
Troubleshooting:
Make sure you have installed the latest version of Google Earth.
You can get it here.
Demo mode doesn't work.
This indicates a communication problem between GooPs and Google Earth.
(Demo Mode must work correctly before GooPs will work with your GPS)
If the Google Earth view is moving, but the GooPs cursors and tracks are not visible:
- Locate the GooPsServers placemark in the Google Earth "Places" folder.
- Right click on the GooPsServers placemark and select refresh.
If the Google Earth view is not moving, try the following steps:
- Delete any existing GooPsServers placemarks from the Google Earth "Places" and "Temporary Places" folders.
- Exit GooPs and Google Earth.
- Restart GooPs.
- Enable "Auto-Start Google Earth" in the GooPs Options dialog.
- Press the GooPs "Start Demo" button.
Google
Earth should start automatically and a GooPsServers network link should
appear in the Google Earth "Temporary Places" folder.
Several people have had to re-install Google Earth to get it to work with GooPs.
If re-installing Google Earth doesn't work please report the problem.
Make sure you are not running an http server while using the "Blurry image fix":
The "Blurry image fix" will not work while an http server is running on your system.
I can't get GooPs to work with my GPS.
- Make sure demo mode works (see above)
- Make sure no other GPS applications (including the native Google Earth GPS feature) are using the COM port.
- Make sure the COM port and baud rate and flow control are set correctly in the GooPs Options dialog.
- Make sure the COM port, baud rate and flow control are set correctly on your GPS
- Make sure your GPS is set to output NMEA data
If the GooPs status bar displays:
"Opening COM" - GooPs is unable to open the COM port to your GPS.
"Acquiring Signal" - GooPs is communicating with your GPS, but the GPS has not locked onto a satellite.
"Signal Acquired" - GooPs is successfully receiving NMEA data from your GPS.
If
you are using a USB GPS you may need software to direct the USB data to
a COM port. This software usually comes with your GPS (see below).
If you still have issues please report the problem.
I can't find a COM port for my USB GPS.
- Your USB GPS should have come with a virtual COM port driver. If it didn't, check the manufacturer's web site.
- Install the virtual COM port driver.
- To find the correct COM port open the windows Device Manager and look in the "Ports (COM & LPT)" tree.
